"Trade between Thailand and India has continued to expand, and many Indian companies have made
direct investments in Thailand, since the 1970’s.
India is a big country with a significant presence on the global stage and it needs to expand
its both its production capacity and to create soft power bases in Thailand as well as on the
world stage.
I suggest that Thailand should take this opportunity to increase its cooperation with India.
Creating a trade alliance or treaty between Thailand and India will drive further trade and
investment between the two countries as well as leading to greater cooperation in the
development the technology expertise that Thailand still lacks. Additionally, increased
opportunities will then be available to Thai people to work and study in India, all of which
will benefit and better equip the national workforce on their return to Thailand.
Thailand can also cooperate with India (I) in establishing a group of great powers outside the
west, which would include Brazil (B), Russia (R), China (C), Korea (K), South Africa (S), Japan
(J), ASEAN countries (A), and Middle East countries (M). This group, I suggested to be called
“BRICKSJAM”, can work to reduce economic dependence on superpowers and create a new pole of
power that helps balance the world. This would also enhance the significance of the roles played
by both Thailand and India on the world stage in the future.
